What is a Matron
Matrons are at the heart of Sacana, trusted, compassionate people who offer structured, stigma-free conversation and connection to those who need it most. This isn't care work in the traditional sense. It's not clinical. It's not counselling. It's real conversation, a chance to be present, to listen, to hold space, and to brighten someone's day.

Who can become a Matron?
We welcome applications from people who care and who are comfortable having meaningful, human conversations over video.
You might already be:
- A registered carer (SSSC, NMC, HCPC etc.)
- A working or former NHS professional
- An unpaid carer looking for flexible work
- Someone with community or vliunteer experience
- A retired professional with time to give
- Or simply someone who connects well with others
If you've got empathy, patience, and life experience, you may have exactly what it takes and we'll support you with everything else you need.
*Sacana provides full training and support to get you started and to keep you supported throughout
What support and training will I receive?
Sacana provides full training and support to get you started and to keep you supported throughout. As a Matron, you'll:
- Complete our online safeguarding, confidentiality, and communication training
- Learn how to have structured, supportive conversations using our platform
- Receive feedback, supervision and ongoing guidance from our team
- Be supported if you'd like to work toward SSSC registration or similar standards
You don't need to be techy, just comfortable using video calls and willing to learn.

Who can become a Matron?
What checks are required?
Because you'll be talking to adults who may be vulnerable or isolated, we take safety seriously. All Matrons must:
- Provide proof of ID and UK right to work
- Undergo an Enhanced DBS, PVG or AccessNI check depending on where you live
- Provide two references (ideally one from a community or people-facing role)
We'll organise the criminal records check for you.
Who can become a Matron?
- You'll be self-employed, choosing your own hours
- You'll be paid a set hourly rate for each structured conversation you host
- All sessions happen over video using Sacana's secure platform
- You'll be fully supported by our safeguarding and quality team
Whether you have 5 hours or 50, you can make a difference, flexibly, from home.

It’s the first time I’ve had flexible work that actually feels meaningful. Every call is different, and every one matters

I’ve worked in care for years — but this is different. You’re not fixing things. You’re just there. And that presence changes people.

Being a Matron fits around my life, but more than that, it gives real purpose to my day. You feel it after every call.
